LYDSON
A new courtyard link connects two distinctly different existing dwellings to create a cohesive modern family home.
Using recycled brick and modern black aluminium framing, Lydson brings a fresh palette to the merging of a re-built Inter-war Californian bungalow with a modest 1990s brick veneer rear dwelling for a young family. Warm timbers and bright whites lend calm and comfort to feature stones and brick textures.
With tight setbacks and on-boundary walls, operable skylights flood the open plan living-kitchen area with natural daylighting while a central courtyard space promotes connection through communal orientation and sight lines.
Kirsten Johnstone Architecture worked carefully and sensitively to renovate and renew this complex existing site arrangement resulting in a texturally rich and engaging family home.
